What would you consider "American food"? I'm thinking more than just hamburgers and hot dogs, but what common attributes or tastes (if any) describe American food? And would you consider Italian food ethnic? Tim and I had this conversation today, and I'm interested in other answers.

Interesting article about food dyes and snobbery. I like reading about inconsistencies in human behavior - most of us are so black and white about things that it's nice to see around the rhetoric.

Bug In Food
Jul. 24th, 2005 | 09:46 am
mood: complaining
Friday, Tim and I had fondue, and I found a mosquito / fly type thing in the bread. The bread was from Meijer, by the way.
Yesterday, we went fancy and had dinner at the Eagle's Nest. I had the lasagna rolls, and took one home for later. I had (part of) it this morning, and there was a beatle under the roll!
What is with me and insects this weekend?
Yes, yes, I know that I eat something close to a million bugs in my lifetime, and they're routinely crushed up and processed during normal food manufacturing, but ew!
Ew!
Ew!
